Building energy markets

Energy 4 Impact employs a market systems approach to building inclusive renewable energy markets, tackling supply and demand challenges.

On the supply side, we work to create a conducive environment for clean energy providers and entrepreneurs, promoting innovation and investment, strengthening supply chains, developing policies, and improving infrastructure.

On the demand side, we identify and overcome barriers that prevent communities from accessing and adopting clean energy solutions by addressing affordability issues, improving efficiency, promoting awareness and education, and facilitating financing mechanisms.

Through this ecosystem approach, we seek to establish a self-reinforcing cycle of clean energy adoption and growth. Addressing barriers and expanding the market helps to attract investors, driving further innovation, cost reductions, and economies of scale. This virtuous cycle leads to sustainable and resilient energy markets, contributing to the broader goal of sustainable development.

Business & tech innovation

Our Venture Building and Advisory arm works with the private sector to develop durable solutions tailored to local contexts. We build collaborations with motivated companies positioned to tackle systemic barriers to growth in their markets and communities. We offer a wide range of services to support their growth.

Financial access

To meet rising energy needs and align with the climate goals set out in the Paris Agreement, annual clean energy investments in emerging and developing economies will need to more than triple from $770 billion in 2022 to as much as $2.8 trillion by the early 2030s. We are helping to accelerate that process.

Mini-grid & utility strengthening

Expanding power grids and mini-grids is a vital component of improving energy access in under-served rural areas, but these projects often grapple with a common challenge: low demand. Beyond poles and wires, we work to enable solutions that both maximize the usage of existing utility services and deliver mini-grids to communities living outside the reach of the main grid.

Clean cooking markets

Around 1.8 billion people remain without access to clean cooking in 2030. We foster vibrant and sustainable markets for clean cooking stoves and fuels, from expanding the production and retail networks of locally produced cookstoves to creating an enabling environment for clean cooking access.
